Monitoring Elephant Movement at Railway Tracks

Tracking elephant movement with a real-time monitoring system to address human-elephant conflict

Implementing Department: Department of Forests

The project aims to establish a real-time monitoring system in Coimbatore district’s seven forest ranges to address human-elephant conflicts. It utilizes thermal and rotating cameras with sensors and wireless intranet to pinpoint wild elephants’ exact locations, issuing instant alerts. Command centers will monitor elephant movements, providing visual images for identifying lone elephants or herds. Additionally, an integrated system near railway tracks will alert station masters and loco-pilots about the presence of elephants.
