Centre for Innovation in Governance

The Centre for Innovation in Governance aims to foster innovation at the sectoral, district, and grassroots levels. It collaborates with public, private, sectoral, and social innovators to promote innovative interventions. The Centre identifies key issues, encourages creativity, conducts pilot projects, and evaluates solutions. By engaging diverse stakeholders, it becomes a hub for fostering partnerships to address public governance issues. The Centre identifies use cases, builds capacity, and implements innovative public governance solution in the state.

Our Vision

Facilitating cross-sector collaboration to enhance the public sector innovation system in Tamil Nadu by assisting government departments in adopting or leveraging innovative initiatives.

Our Mission

To provide assistance to government departments and district administration in the process of piloting innovative projects, as well as providing capacity building on emerging technologies in order to cultivate creative competencies.
To collaborate with government departments to identify challenges in public service delivery which necessitate innovative solutions.
To establish a collaborative platform for various stakeholders, including industry, government, academia, enterprises, and innovators to jointly create and develop solutions.
To engage with social innovators to introduce impactful interventions that enhance the welfare and well-being of individuals and communities.
To document and evaluate the outcomes of innovative interventions implemented within the government sector.

Focus Areas

Public Innovation

With a special focus on departments and sectors, the Centre will work along with the government departments to prioritize and address issues or challenges, offering technical assistance to identify innovative solutions.

Social Innovation

‘Social innovation’ entails developing and implementing new ideas to improve people’s lives and communities. The Centre will work with multiple stakeholders to create and implement socially innovative solutions to address socio-economic issues in the state.

Grassroot Innovation

The district administration is the backbone of grass-roots governance that provides public services to all inhabitants. The district administration faces distinct issues that may hinder service delivery or district development. The Centre would help the administration to solve challenges that demand customized innovative solutions.

The Centre for Innovation in Governance (CIG) spearheads multiple initiatives to foster innovation across various verticals, driving enhancements in public service delivery within the state. The innovative solutions are expected not only to solve the problems identified and described but also aim to improve the public governance in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, service delivery and relevance. Our Team

The Centre for Innovation in Governance is led by the Vice Chairman of the State Planning Commission, who serves as its chair. The team comprises of Director, Executive Director, Lead Innovator, Innovation Consultants and Young Innovators, focusing on facilitating innovation within governance. The Centre is supported by consultants and sectoral experts from government, academia, industries, and the private sector. This dedicated team identify problem statements, assist implementation of innovative solution and documents innovative interventions within government departments. The Centre collaborates with various institutions fostering innovation in the state, onboarding them as technical partners.

Further, to guide and to oversee the function of the Centre, the Government has constituted a High Power Committee with the following members,
